WPIAL Insider Players of the Week: Week 9

6A: Luke Michalek RB Butler

Mr. Michalek was “Mr. Everything” for the Golden Tornados in Butler’s 28-26 win against Canon- McMillan. Michalek had 485 all-purpose yards, while 299 of those yards were rushing. Michalek added two rushing touchdowns on the night. He returned two kickoffs for 92 and 94 yards respectively.

5A: Melvin Blanks RB North Hills

Blanks rushed for 267 yards on 23 carries and scored 4 rushing touchdowns in the 28-7 win against Hampton. Blanks finished the season with 1,409 yards on 199 carries.

4A: Drew Saxton QB South Fayette

Saxton had a big day in helping the Lions tie a WPIAL record of 6 consecutive undefeated regular seasons in the 49-21 win over Montour. Saxton completed 14 of 20 passes for 338 yards, while throwing four touchdowns.

3A: Avante McKenzie RB Aliquippa

McKenzie didn’t take long to have a big night for the Quips in the 54-3 win against Hopewell. McKenzie only needed eight carries to collect 209 yards rushing and add three touchdowns. Aliquippa finished the regular season undefeated for the seventh time in the past eight years.

2A: Trevon Adams Ath Steel Valley

Adams helped the Ironmen extend their winning streak to 23 consecutive games in the 62-29 win against Brentwood. Adams had 149 yards rushing, scored three rushing touchdowns, and one receiving touchdown in the win.

1A: Tre’Sean Howard RB Clairton

Howard helped propel the Bears to victory against the Jeanette Jayhawks in the 40-6 win this past Friday. Howard finished with 194 yards on 18 carries, scoring two rushing touchdowns. He also added three receptions for 92 yards, which included an 86-yard touchdown.
